ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities have positively identified an Albuquerque man who was fatally shot near the downtown area last week.

Albuquerque police say 33-year-old Jerry Michael Trejo was found dead Tuesday in front of the Wells Park Community Center.

A witness reported hearing shots and seeing a man standing over a body, then get into a vehicle and drive off in an erratic fashion.

Police say the witnesses took pictures of the vehicle and its license plate.

They say it was determined to be a car rented to 19-year-old Damian Hidalgo of Albuquerque.

Hidalgo later told police he went to the community center to buy marijuana and the other man tried to rob him a knifepoint and he shot him.

Police say Hidalgo is jailed on suspicion of an open count of murder.
