LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Louisville attorney has asked a family court judge to open a confidential foster care hearing to the public.

WDRB-TV (https://bit.ly/2fwFG4Z) cited court records in reporting that attorney Karen Faulkner requested the action, saying the child has “remained in foster care for months while there is a suitable family member” to live with. A hearing in the case is scheduled for Dec. 1.

Typically, juvenile cases in Kentucky are closed to the public but can now be opened under a law passed this year aimed at making the judicial system more transparent and accountable.

Faulkner says the family is requesting the case be opened because they think it will help protect the child’s best interest. She has asked that the child’s identity remain confidential.
