LOGANVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a man accused of carjacking and kidnapping an elderly woman in Walton County.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles says 29-year-old John Christopher Calhoun was arrested Monday after a high speed vehicle chase. Calhoun is accused of kidnapping an unidentified 81-year-old woman from her Loganville home and put her in the trunk of her vehicle Sunday.

The vehicle eventually crashed and the suspect fled on foot after the brief chase.

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman says officials rescued the woman from the car and brought her to the hospital for treatment.

Calhoun was considered armed and dangerous.

Calhoun is charged on multiple counts including elder abuse, carjacking, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
