NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say an 11-year-old boy was hit and killed by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on a southwest Florida road.

A Lee County Sheriff’s Office news release says the crash occurred Sunday evening.

The release says Nathan Carroll was riding his bike on a dark, rural road near his North Fort Myers home when a woman struck him with her vehicle. He was taken to a Fort Myers hospital, where he died.

Deputies say the bicycle did not have lights or reflectors, and the boy was not wearing a helmet.

The release says the boy was violating the right of way. No charges were reported against the vehicle’s driver.
