CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities have identified the domestic violence suspect fatally shot by Chicago police after he fired at them during a foot chase.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office says 33-year-old Richard Grimes of Chicago died at Stroger Hospital early Monday.

Late Sunday night, police responding to a domestic violence call in the West Garfield park neighborhood spotted a man later identified as Grimes after a suspect allegedly shot a 24-year-old pregnant woman. During a foot chase, police say Grimes fired twice at officers before the officers returned fire. They say a gun was recovered.

The woman, Ashley Williams also was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The baby boy did not survive.

Police say two officers were injured: one with an apparent graze wound from a bullet and another who injured his leg and reported chest pains.
