CINCINNATI (AP) - Police say a 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in a hit-skip accident that critically injured a young girl and hospitalized her mother as they crossed a street near the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

Cincinnati police say Donteiz Dickey is being held without bond Monday on charges of aggravated vehicular assault and failing to stop for an accident after his arrest Sunday. Police say he struck 3-year-old Khloe Pitts and her mother, 27-year-old Joy White, in a crosswalk Saturday as they walked to the zoo’s annual Festival of Lights.

Pitts is in critical condition. White is in serious condition.

Police say Dickey sped away after the accident. His car was found abandoned a few blocks away.
