SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A man who suggested ways for his best friend to kill an Anaheim Hills family after a romantic breakup has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for his role in the 2007 murders.

The Orange County Register (https://bit.ly/2gcKb8R ) says Vitaliy Krasnoperov was sentenced Monday for conspiracy. Prosecutors agreed to drop murder and attempted murder charges.

His friend, Iftekhar Murtaza, is on death row for the killings, and another man, Charles Murphy, is serving a life sentence.

Prosecutors say Murtaza blamed the family for his breakup with Shayona Dhanak.

Prosecutors say he and another man set fire to the family home and kidnapped and killed Dhanak’s father and sister, leaving their stabbed and burned bodies in a park.

Dhanak’s mother was slashed in the neck but survived.
