NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A New Haven police detective has been injured while directing traffic in the city.

Police say 47-year-old Juan Ingles was struck by a motorcyclist on Kimberly Avenue near an Interstate-95 underpass Monday afternoon.

The operator remained at the scene.

Police say the detective was pinned under the motorcycle before being freed by bystanders. He was taken to Yale-New Haven hospital with what police described as serious injuries.

Police say the motorcycle operator is being interviewed and no charges were immediately filed.
