BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 91-year-old Baton Rouge man has died after a tree fell on him.

East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. William “Beau” Clark tells local media that Alton Richard died Monday morning from blunt force trauma to the head.

St. George Fire Department spokesman Eldon Ledoux says Richard had been raking leaves in his backyard when high winds caused a neighbor’s tree to fall on him. Responding firefighters used extrication techniques to clear debris from around Richard so first responders could render aid. However, he was already deceased.

Ledoux says firefighters received other calls Monday morning about high winds causing trees and limbs to fall in the same area.
