LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) - Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Lexington County Councilman and charged him with damaging a family member’s vehicle.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that 35-year-old Phillip Heyward Yarborough Jr. was arrested on a charge of malicious injury to personal property Sunday afternoon.

Deputies said there was a dispute Saturday during a wedding.

Yarborough’s new wife called deputies Sunday to complain that her husband had thrown a rock at her father’s car and bent the license plate. She said Yarborough was angry with her and cursed her and her parents.

Yarborough’s wife said her husband has a drinking problem.

Deputies say Yarborough denied that he knew anything about the damaged vehicle.

Councilman Johnny Jeffcoat said Yarborough plans to check himself into a 60-day treatment program.
