GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities believe human remains that were found in a northern Alabama field over the weekend might be those of a missing Guntersville man.

Guntersville police tell news outlets the remains are believed to be connected to the disappearance of Steve Sims, who was reported missing in August.

A farmer notified authorities after finding the remains Sunday in what used to be a cornfield.

Guntersville Investigator John East tells Al.com that the field is next to Sims‘ home.

Marshall County Coroner Marlon Killion said Monday that authorities hadn’t determined a cause of death.

It is unclear how old Sims was at the time of his disappearance.
