CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The city of Cheyenne has elected its first female mayor.

Marian Orr defeated Amy Surdam in Tuesday’s election.

When both candidates advanced out of the primary, one of them was destined to become the first woman elected to the job since Cheyenne was founded in 1867.

Orr is a lobbyist for various organizations and campaigned on addressing urgent and practical needs in the city. Surdam had campaigned on improving quality-of-life projects.
