NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio congratulated President-elect Donald Trump as a fellow New Yorker, but admitted to feeling “deeply disappointed” by his upset victory over Hillary Clinton.

The mayor said he took “solace in the fact the president-elect is a dyed-in-the wool New Yorker.” He also said he hopes Trump will “remember the lessons of a life lived in New York City.”

De Blasio, a Democrat who supported Clinton, sharply criticized Trump during the campaign.

On Wednesday, the mayor said he was committed to working with the new administration to rebuild infrastructure, create more jobs, protect the city’s residents and preserve liberties.
