VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Fees are on the rise at the Vicksburg National Military Park.

Citing National Park Service information, The Vicksburg Post reports (https://bit.ly/2dbLWhH ) that starting Jan. 1, the cost of an annual park pass will increase from $25 to $30. A vehicle pass will go up from $12 to $15.

The charge per person and the fee for motorcycles will remain the same at $5 and $7, respectively.

Park Superintendent Bill Justice says the rise in costs is part of a two-stage fee increase that was determined based on public comments from an evaluation two years ago.

The first increase happened last year, and fees were raised to their current levels.

Justice says the fees apply to everyone who enters the park, adding that the money helps pay for various park projects.
