WISCASSET, Maine (AP) - The correctional administrator of the Two Bridges Regional Jail has been placed on paid leave following his arrest late last week in Bath for operating under the influence.

Mark Westrum, who has been the top administrator at the Wiscasset jail since 2008, was charged with OUI on Friday after he was stopped for allegedly driving without his headlights on.

The decision to put Westrum on administrative leave was made during Wednesday’s executive session of the Lincoln and Sagadahoc Multicounty Jail Authority’s executive committee.

Jail authority chairwoman Mary Trescot said the action is in accordance with Two Bridges Regional Jail policy.

Corrections Captain James Bailey has assumed Westrum’s duties as administrator. The jail authority will discuss how to move forward at its Nov. 9 meeting.

Westrum didn’t return calls seeking comment.
