PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Travel author and television personality Rick Steves will be among the participants in a forum about whether Maine should legalize marijuana for recreational use.

Steves will take part in a forum at Rines Auditorium in Portland on Tuesday at noon. Maine residents are getting ready to vote in a referendum about whether to legalize marijuana next month.

Steves favors legalization. He will debate alongside David Boyer of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol. Opposing the referendum will be Scott Gagnon of Smart Approaches to Marijuana Maine and Jennifer Ackerman, the deputy district attorney for Cumberland County.

Portland Press Herald reporter Gillian Graham will moderate the conversation.

Maine’s marijuana referendum is one of several on ballots around the country this fall. Massachusetts is also considering legalization.
