ELSMERE, Del. (AP) - Investigators say Robert Callahan, who was appointed last week to manage the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Elsmere, was previously recommended for disciplinary action at another VA facility.

USA Today reports (https://delonline.us/2dA2GSU) that according to a 2012 report by the VA’s inspector general, when Callahan was director of the Lebanon, Pennsylvania, VA center, he chose not to notify the inspector general that a nurse at the facility was charged with diverting narcotic pain relievers morphine and oxycodone.

The inspector general recommended that VA officials take “administrative action” against Callahan. VA officials said they couldn’t comment on whether Callahan was disciplined.

Callahan became acting director of the Elsmere facility last week following director Robin C. Aube-Warren’s move to a VA management office in Pittsburgh.

Callahan couldn’t be reached for comment.
