PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Public Safety now has a building in Phoenix that houses a variety of DPS functions and work groups that interact directly with the public.

The state police agency scheduled a dedication ceremony Thursday for the public service center, a newly remodeled 90,000-square-foot building that formerly was known as Encanto Plaza and that is now named Sheinfeld Plaza.

DPS units now operating in the building include those handling concealed weapons permits, criminal history and public records, vehicle impounds, fingerprinting, sex offender compliance and licensing for security guards and private investigators.

Many of the units were previously located in different DPS buildings, and DPS Capt. Jason Yeager says the consolidation in one location will enable the agency to provide better service to citizens.
