AGAWAM, Mass. (AP) - Three Agawam police officers fired after city officials determined they used excessive force in subduing a struggling man in police custody want their jobs back.

An attorney for the officers says he has appealed their terminations to the Massachusetts Civil Service Commission, and is confident they will win.

Attorney John Connor says the officers “acted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the department as well as their training” to subdue a drunk and violent man who was assaulting them.

The 27-year-old man was taken into custody June 19 at the Six Flags New England amusement park after becoming belligerent when a bartender refused to serve him.

Sgt. Anthony Grasso, Officer John Moccio and Officer Edward Connor were fired Oct. 19 after an investigation. The Connors are not related.
