IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have trapped and killed a coyote that bit a 6-year-old boy at an Orange County park.

City News Service says the announcement was made Thursday by Irvine police. State wildlife officials were able to identify the animal after trapping about a dozen coyotes since the Oct. 9 attack.

Authorities say the boy and his father were on an evening walk through Springbrook Park when the coyote jumped out from behind a sandbox playhouse.

The coyote bit the boy’s left arm and dragged him about three feet before his father managed to scare it away.

The boy received puncture wounds and had a rabies shot.
