MAXWELL, Neb. (AP) - Organizers in Nebraska say they’re gearing up this holiday season to place wreaths on the graves of veterans.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1504 and the Nebraska Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution say they’re working to ensure graves at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell will soon be decorated as part of the national Wreaths Across America Program.

The North Platte Telegraph reports (https://bit.ly/2eiEd2I ) 1,300 wreaths were laid on graves at Fort McPherson last year. The cemetery has participated in the program for several years, and the new Omaha National Cemetery will do the same this year.

Organizers say the public can place orders for wreaths at both cemeteries online. Wreaths will be placed on the graves on Dec. 17 and be removed on Jan. 21.
