FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - The CEO of the U.S. Marshals Museum has announced 2019 as the target date to open the doors to a new $60 million museum on the riverfront in Fort Smith.

The Southwest Times Record (https://bit.ly/2eVcgzx ) reports that the Sept. 24, 2019, date for the national museum’s opening is to coincide with the 230th anniversary of the U.S. Marshals Service.

About half of the $60 million cost has been raised to construct and operate the 50,000-square-foot facility that’s meant to honor the U.S. Marshals Service’s long history.

Exhibits will show the history of the oldest federal law enforcement agency in the United States.
