VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man has died after being pulled from the water at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Local news outlets report that police say emergency crews arrived at the scene Monday afternoon after receiving a call about a man who was unable to swim to shore.

Authorities say people from the beach had also entered the water to try to help. Rescue crews, along with a witness, pulled the victim to shore using a rescue boat.

The man, identified as 52-year-old Eddie Van Peake, of Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
