Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee claimed Thursday that Hillary Clinton’s laugh is so “phony” and so unnatural that it almost comes off as a “cackle” that would be enough to frighten off trick-or-treaters.

The former governor of Arkansas was speaking with Fox News host Martha MacCallum about a column in The Washington Times by Monica Crowley, saying Mrs. Clinton’s debate prep team instructed her to provoke Donald Trump while keeping an “air of superiority.”

“They also instructed her, according to Monica’s piece, to laugh and smile a lot because people see her as angry,” Ms. MacCallum said, according to a clip obtained by The Washington Free Beacon.

“The problem with Hillary trying to laugh and smile a lot — that’s great advice ordinarily,” Mr. Huckabee responded. “But Hillary is not natural at that and when she laughs it comes across as a cackle — something almost that is so phony that you are just taken aback.

“And when you listen to Hillary, when she gets upset, which is most of the time, her voice goes up almost an octave and she begins to scream,” he continued. “She’s like the person you never go trick-or-treating at her house because you are afraid she is going to open the door and throw the candy at you rather than gently put it in your basket.”

Mr. Huckabee said the second presidential debate, to be held Sunday evening at Washington University in St. Louis, will show an “incredible contrast.”

“I think Donald Trump is going to be better prepared this time,” he said. “Hillary is going to be Hillary and that ain’t good for her.”
