EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A Lane County judge has dismissed a lawsuit against the Register-Guard newspaper filed by a former reporter.

The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/Nbinyz ) that former reporter Serena Markstrom had claimed that Guard Publishing, the publisher of The Register-Guard, had fired her in 2014 because she was pregnant. The newspaper denied these claims.

Lane County Circuit Court Judge Josephine Mooney dismissed the case Wednesday, basing her ruling on actions Markstrom took shortly before being fired. Markstrom had deleted emails and text messages that, Mooney said, could have reflected poorly on her. Mooney ruled Markstrom destroyed evidence in an attempt to strengthen her lawsuit.
