NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A newer and larger Norwegian Cruise Line International ship will be repositioned to New Orleans in the fall of 2017.

The company said in a news release it would replace the smaller Norwegian Dawn with the larger Norwegian Pearl, which is 20 feet wider and holds 54 more guests.

The Norwegian Dawn, built in 2002, cruises from the port to the Caribbean during the winter. The ship is 965 feet long and can accommodate 2,340 passengers. The Norwegian Pearl, built in 2006, is the same length but has a guest capacity of 2,394 passengers.

Elizabeth Lytle, a Norwegian Cruise Line spokeswoman, said Norwegian Pearl will begin sailing a Western Caribbean itinerary from New Orleans. The ship’s maiden voyage from the port will be Nov. 5, 2017.
