PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Officials say a Philadelphia firefighter who died after being found unresponsive in the basement of his firehouse while on duty in July succumbed to heart disease.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports (https://bit.ly/2bTVGzW ) the Medical Examiner’s Office announced 42-year-old Gabriel Lee’s cause of death on Wednesday.

The 17-year department veteran died July 23. Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel says Lee had been responding to calls earlier in his shift. A spokesman for the firefighters union says firefighters tried to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful.
