WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - A 23-year-old eastern Pennsylvania man is being sentenced to 45 to 90 years in prison for killing the young man who had begun dating his ex-girlfriend.

Zachary Ludwig pleaded guilty to third-degree murder Thursday in Chester County Court.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports (https://bit.ly/2bXpiy0 ) that Ludwig apologized to Nicholas Mruczek’s family members and told them he wished he could bring Mruczek back.

Police say Ludwig confronted the 20-year-old Mruczek outside the Pottstown apartment Mruczek shared with roommates in July 2015 and shot him in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun.

Mruczek returned to the apartment, bleeding profusely, and identified Ludwig to his roommates and police. He died the next day.

Mruczek’s girlfriend allegedly told police that Ludwig was angry about her relationship and had threatened to shoot Mruczek.
