BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - A gunman shot a 73-year-old woman in the face as she sat at a Boca Raton stoplight.

The Palm Beach Post reported (https://pbpo.st/2bX8GGO ) Thursday that police said the woman was sitting at a stoplight at about 11 p.m. Wednesday when a car pulled up next to her. She said a man got out and tried to open her passenger side door.

When discovering it was locked, he pulled a gun and shot her in the hand and cheek.

Police say she drove off, but the man followed her, firing at least one more shot. She drove herself to the hospital, where police say she was in stable condition Thursday. Her name has not been released.

The gunman fled and is being sought.
