SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Dano Graves had 130 yards and two touchdowns passing and 98 yards and another TD rushing on Saturday and Cal Poly beat San Diego 38-16.

Graves’ 27-yard TD pass to Kori Garcia gave the Mustangs (1-1) a 24-13 lead early in the third and Joe Protheroe’s 1-yard TD run made it an 18-point edge with 5:40 left in the quarter. Protheroe rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs.

San Diego (1-1) scored with a short field goal early in the fourth, but Graves answered with a 33-yard TD run to cap the scoring.

The Toreros led briefly when Anthony Lawrence passed to Ross Dwelley for a pair of second-quarter touchdowns. Their second hookup made it 13-10 with 50 seconds left in the half.

But Cal Poly ripped off a five-play, 82-yard touchdown drive using only 39 seconds to retake the lead for good before intermission.
