EMPIRE, Mich. (AP) - Authorities searching for a missing kayaker in Lake Michigan hope the case can be solved with help from people visiting the area during the weekend.

Tyler Spink of Kalkaska is presumed drowned. He was paddling toward Empire with a friend on Labor Day when their kayaks capsized. The Traverse City Record-Eagle (https://bit.ly/2cekzoK ) says they started at the mouth of the Platte River in Benzie County.

The National Park Service suspended its search Friday. Sleeping Bear Dunes Superintendent Scott Tucker says employees are “heartbroken just like everybody else” after repeatedly walking the Lake Michigan shore.

Signs posted at the Platte River boat launch are telling boaters to watch for the body. The U.S. Coast Guard says it searched for 28 consecutive hours.
