MISANO ADRIATICO, Italy (AP) - Jorge Lorenzo edged Movistar Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi to take a record 64th career pole position for the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix on Saturday.

Lorenzo broke a three-way tie for the record that he shared with Rossi and Marc Marquez.

Lorenzo finished more than three-tenths of a second ahead of Rossi, with last week’s British GP winner Maverick Vinales taking third position, more than half a second behind.

Championship leader Marc Marquez qualified fourth.

In the MotoGP standings, Marquez leads Rossi by 50 points, with Lorenzo 64 points back.

Johann Zarco of France took the Moto2 pole, and Brad Binder of South Africa qualified first in Moto3.
