ANDREW, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fish kill in an eastern Iowa trout stream.

The department says the fish kill was discovered Friday morning in Upper Brush Creek, almost four miles north of Andrew in Jackson County. Officials say fisheries staffers who went to the stream to stock trout found a kill extending at least a mile downstream from them. Species killed were mostly suckers, stone cats and minnows, but some dead trout also were found.

The pollutant that caused the kill and its source are not yet known, but water samples have been sent for laboratory testing.

The department says officials will continue to monitor the stream and look for the source of pollution.
