SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Law officers in San Antonio have critically wounded a capital murder suspect in an exchange of gunfire in a motel parking lot.

Police Chief William McManus says no officers were hurt Saturday morning while trying to arrest a man also wanted on aggravated assault, weapon and drug-related counts.

McManus says the suspect, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was spotted packing a vehicle when officers from a fugitive task force approached him.

The police chief says the suspect appeared to be giving up but then he opened fire. Three officers returned fire - a San Antonio police officer, a Bexar (bayr) County sheriff’s deputy and an officer with the U.S. Marshals Service.

McManus didn’t immediately provide additional information on the suspect, who was hospitalized in critical condition.
