WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Trial is underway for a Rhode Island man charged with sexually assaulting and killing an elderly woman in her West Warwick apartment more than 25 years ago.

David Roscoe, of Westerly, was arrested in November.

Prosecutors say Roscoe sexually assaulted and killed 85-year-old Germaine Mouchon in her apartment in 1990. Roscoe has pleaded not guilty to murder and first-degree sexual assault charges.

Police reopened the case last summer after Mouchon’s grandson inquired about it. Police say DNA evidence from the scene was tested and matched to Roscoe.

WJAR-TV reports the trial began Friday with testimony from Mouchon’s grandson.
