MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Historical Society is sharing some results of its two-year project called “Freaks, Radicals, and Hippies: Counterculture in 1970s Vermont.”

A daylong symposium takes place Saturday at the Vermont College of Fine Arts alumni hall.

Social policy and cultural history scholar Edward Berkowitz is the keynote speaker.

There will also be a 1970s slideshow, and talks given on the back-to-the-land movement and communal living as well as social justice issues and the politics of the time.

Preregistration is required.

The Vermont Historical Society is putting on an exhibit on counterculture in the 1970s later in the month. It’s scheduled to open Sept. 24.
