BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Tech Police Department says threatening email messages received by dozens of people in the campus community originated from a country in South America.

Tech Police said Friday that state and federal law enforcement agencies have taken charge of the investigation.

Tech Police said last month the email “included a threat to campus safety.” Police did not say what kind of threat was made.

Tech’s campus remained open and operated under normal conditions, with classes in session.

Tech Police are asking who sees other threatening messages on email or social media to contact authorities.
