SAN DIEGO (AP) - A 2-year-old girl and her grandmother were killed in a hit-and-run crash in San Diego County.

The California Highway Patrol says the child’s mother and 5-year-old sister suffered major injuries after their Honda Accord was rear-ended by a Cadillac sedan on Interstate 15 near Mira Mesa on Saturday. A man driving a Toyota pickup truck then slammed into the Honda, but he stopped after the collision.

The Cadillac driver, 31-year-old Grant Thoren, was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and driving under the influence of drugs.

In Northern California, a 3-year-old boy died Friday night after his family’s car was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver. The CHP says Elijah Dunn’s mother pulled to the side of Interstate 680 in San Ramon after running out of gas.
