CHESTER, S.C. (AP) - Two people have been killed and several others hurt in a wreck on Interstate 77 in northern Chester County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol told local media outlets that six vehicles were involved in the crash shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

The wreck closed all lanes on the road for several hours. Lance Cpl. Gary Miller said the northbound lanes reopened about 8 p.m. The southbound lanes reopened later Thursday.

The names of the victims have not been released while relatives are notified. Four people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The other person was flown to a hospital in Columbia.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
