PHOENIX (AP) - After eliminating two candidates, a selection committee is preparing to interview the remaining nine applicants for the two open Arizona Supreme Court seats.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports (https://bit.ly/2bInSH6 ) that the Commission on Appellate Court Appointments will interview the nine applicants September 30.

The two open seats were created by a law signed this spring by Republican Gov. Doug Ducey.

The remaining candidates include six Republicans, two independents and one Democrat. The commission must choose a politically balanced slate of at least three nominees per seat to Ducey, who will pick the two justices from the list.
