COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A firefighter collecting money at an Ohio charity event has been hit by a vehicle, and the event has been suspended.

The accident happened Friday in Columbus during the Fill the Boot campaign to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The event was expected to run through the weekend. During the event, firefighters stand at street intersections holding boots for people to fill with donations.

The firefighter who was hit has been hospitalized in stable condition.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the firefighter was wearing a reflective vest and other safety equipment when he was struck.
