SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Delaware police are investigating a serious crash involving a tow truck on Route 1 in Smyrna.

Police say the wreck occurred just before 6 p.m. on Thursday when the driver of an International Tow Truck was driving southbound on Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway near Twin Willows Road when the front tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road. Police say the tow truck spun around before hitting a tree and overturning, launching the driver from the vehicle.

The driver wasn’t properly restrained and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver’s wife, who was properly restrained, was rescued and taken to a hospital. She was released with non-life threatening injuries.
