NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Officials from Old Dominion and Norfolk State universities say they will decide whether they will postpone their football home openers until Sunday.

The Virginian-Pilot newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/2bFXQ8L) that Hurricane Hermine is threatening the Saturday games. Typically, rain cancels college football games. But because the openers are against other local teams, school officials are considering postponements instead. The decision is expected to be made by midday Friday.

Old Dominion is scheduled to host Hampton University. Elizabeth City State University is set to visit Norfolk State. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Old Dominion expects 20,000 fans, including thousands who tail-gate in nearby lots. Forecasters say the storm could bring heavy rains and high winds to the region on Saturday afternoon and evening.
