LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a 9-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was mauled by a stray dog that ran into her Pennsylvania home.

The dog entered the Lancaster home Wednesday morning when police say one of the residents opened the door to leave the house. Authorities say the dog went after the girl and the family’s dog then jumped a gate and attacked the stray.

An adult eventually intervened and pulled the stray dog off of the girl, but not before she suffered severe bites to her head. Information on her condition wasn’t immediately available.

The dog ran from the area after the attack and hasn’t been found.
