INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Latest on former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle’s effort to blame one of his victim’s parents (all times local):

One legal expert says former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle’s attempt to shift the blame in a civil lawsuit filed by one of his child pornography victims onto that girl’s parents is a “bizarre” legal move.

Harold J. Krent, the dean of Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Institute of Technology, says it’s not particularly unusual for defendants in civil suits to argue that they may not have caused all of a particular victim’s alleged injuries.

But Krent called it “bizarre” that Fogle’s attorneys are suggesting that her parents’ alleged negligent supervision played a role in her emotional distress.

Fogle’s attorney filed a motion Thursday seeking to add the girl’s parents as defendants in her suit. It suggests they are to blame for all or some of her “destructive behaviors.”

Subway’s former pitchman imprisoned for child pornography and sex abuse says the parents of one of his female victims are to blame for what he describes as her “destructive behaviors.”

Jared Fogle makes that argument in a Thursday filing in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis. The motion also argues that the parents may be responsible for the girl’s injuries alleged in a civil lawsuit against him.

The victim was a subject in some of the child pornography in Fogle’s criminal case and filed a lawsuit against him in March. It seeks monetary damages for, among other things, personal injury and emotional distress.

Fogle’s filing alleges the parents fought and abused alcohol in front of her. It argues that’s among the causes of her distress and contends the parents may be liable for some or all of her claims against Fogle.
