SANDGATE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police officials say two work horses stolen from a property in Sandgate earlier this week were found safe and have been returned to their owner.

The missing black horses were located Thursday in a fenced-in meadow in Dorset after investigators received a tip from an unidentified caller.

The victim reported to police that the large horses were stolen from his property sometime between 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and 6 p.m. Wednesday. State police say it appeared that someone used a truck and trailer to remove the horses.

It’s unclear if anyone has been charged with the theft. State police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
