STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut woman sexually assaulted nearly 30 years ago finally got to see the man she said raped her put behind bars.

The Hour (https://bit.ly/2d43Xnk ) reports that Osvaldo Muniz was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison on a kidnapping charge.

Prosecutors say the 68-year-old Muniz kidnapped and raped the Norwalk woman at knifepoint in August 1988. He was not arrested until December 2013 when DNA evidence linked him to the attack.

Prosecutors had to drop the rape charge because the statute of limitations had expired. But the kidnapping charge stood.

The woman said in court that her attacker “took a piece of my soul.”

Muniz apologized, blaming his drug habit. Muniz told the victim he was breaking into homes to feed his addiction, and didn’t intend to rape her.
