DURHAM, Maine (AP) - Maine State Police say a morning traffic accident involving a dump truck and a pickup truck in Durham has left two people dead.

State police say 21-year-old Malakai Cawood, of Limington, and 24-year-old Brendan Harthorn, of Cornish, died in the crash Wednesday.

The pickup caught fire, and passers-by pulled out its three occupants. Police say the pickup had run into the side of the dump truck at an intersection.

The crash was reported at 7:15 a.m. and temporarily shut down Route 9 in Durham.

First responders found the two men dead. A third individual was taken away by helicopter. and the driver of the dump truck was taken away by ambulance.
