COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say an Oakland County sheriff’s deputy has been seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in suburban Detroit.

The department says the crash happened Wednesday morning in Commerce Township when the driver of an SUV failed to yield and turned in front of the officer.

Investigators say the deputy avoided the SUV, but was thrown from the motorcycle. The 61-year-old woman driving the SUV stopped to help the deputy.

The 46-year-old deputy was taken to a hospital, where he had injuries to his eye, face, leg and hands. He’s in serious but stable condition.

The crash is under investigation.
