LOUISVILLE, Neb. (AP) - State law enforcement officials have identified a 23-year-old Cass County man killed in a confrontation with a deputy, as well as the deputy who shot him.

The Nebraska State Patrol says in a news release that Austin Baier, of Louisville (LOO’-is-vihl), was killed Wednesday night.

Officials say four-year Cass County Deputy Tyler Reiff stopped Baier’s car around 7:10 p.m. because it matched the description of a vehicle being driven recklessly.

The patrol says Baier briefly stopped, then drove off for a short distance before stopping again, getting out of the car and confronting Reiff. The patrol says an altercation ensued, and Reiff fired his gun.

The patrol says Reiff tried life-saving measures, but Baier died at the scene.

Reiff, 25, has been placed on administrative leave.
